According to Genesis, god made the Earth, then made night and day, and then made the Sun. How does this work?

What was giving Earth its light before god created the Sun and the other stars? And scientifically, how did the elements from which the Earth is made form without stars first existing and going through their life cycles? For instance, the Earth’s core contains large amounts of iron. Iron is made from lighter elements in the cores of massive stars.

An other thing to think about, how did the light from a star get to earth in just one day?
Light is extremly fast, but not in space. It takes 8 muinets for sunlight to get from the sun to the earth. It can take thousands and thousands of years for light to get from a star to the earth.
We are still probably getting light from before the 6000-7000 years ago that christians believed adam and eve lived.
